Despite the fact that Premier League stalwarts West Brom are currently sitting second from bottom in the table, having conceded 22 times this season, defender Jonny Evans has seemingly done enough to attract interest from almost all of the league’s top clubs.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal have both been heavily linked with the former Manchester United centre half, but now the Red Devils themselves have joined the hunt to acquire, or re-acquire, his services, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Evans featured in the top flight for seven seasons with United, and was eventually sent off to West Brom by Louis van Gaal in 2015. He has since become a hugely important figure in the heart of the Baggies defence, which has been robust and well-drilled up until this campaign.

With Manchester United facing even more time without first choice central defender Eric Bailly, Evans seems like a good choice to fill in. The Northern Irish international knows Old Trafford well, and has experience playing at the top level in a United shirt.

Jose Mourinho will likely face a lot of competition from his City neighbours, who themselves are without the increasingly talented John Stones. It seems likely that Evans will end up making a move in January, but to which side of Manchester it remains to be seen.
