After a shock defeat at Newcastle this weekend, Premier League giants Manchester United now trail their eternal rivals Manchester City by a whopping 16 point with just 11 games left to play.
Letting the league title slip away so easily is one thing, but to allow their city rivals to claim it is quite another, and it is little surprise that Jose Mourinho is already in the market for some big name signings in the summer to make a statement.
Gareth Bale is one of the names at the top of the Red Devils’ shopping list, according to the Manchester Evening News, and the Manchester club are said to be ‘finalising negotiations’ with Spanish super club Real Madrid.
The Welsh superstar has been blighted by injury since his move to the Spanish capital back in 2013, but there is still little doubt that he is amongst the world’s best.
With six goals and an assist in his 12 La Liga appearances this season, Bale has been one of the more prolific forwards in a Real Madrid side that has struggled during this campaign.
Manchester United meanwhile acquired Alexis Sanchez in January, and Romelu Lukaku in the summer, but they have still found it difficult to break teams down at times. Bale should allow them to do that with relative ease, given his pace, technicality and phenomenal finishing ability.
